Description

This is a late 19th century house and shop situated at the end of a row on High Street, Ilchester. The house is constructed of lias stonework, which has been rendered and colourwashed, while the shop has a similar substrate. The house has a clay pantiled roof, with a coped north gable and a plain south gable. The shop has a plain clay tile roof with a shallower pitch and a plain south gable. Brick chimney stacks are present. The building has two storeys and a facade of three bays for the house and two for the shop. The house features leaded casement windows, with the earlier windows in slight recesses beneath segmental arched surrounds featuring iron-framed opening lights. The lower bay of the house has a 6-panel flush door set in a plain recess, protected by a moulded flat stone hood on brackets. The shop has leaded casement windows above and a shop front dating to the late 19th century below. The shop front includes 2-light display windows, a central glazed door recessed within the front, and a shallow fascia with a hood supported by console brackets. The interior of the building was not inspected during the listing process.
