Description
Abbotsbury Post Office and Stores is a building that also includes attached residential premises. It dates from the 18th century and was refashioned in the early 19th century. The structure features coursed, squared stone walls made of Portland and lias stone, topped with a slate roof. There is a brick stack located on the ridge, slightly left of the center. The building has two storeys and includes four windows, which are three-light wooden casements with glazing bars.
At the center, there is a shop front with two large shop windows that have thin glazing bars and a moulded cornice that extends across the entire front. The central doorway leads into the shop and features a ribbed architrave with circular bossed corners, and a two-leaf flush panelled door that is glazed in the upper half, with flush-panelled reveals. To the right, there is a large ground floor window of the same design, but it is four panes wide.
On the left end, next to the Ilchester Arms, there is a flush-panelled door with two top lights, dating from the 19th century, and stone voussoirs above. Additionally, there is a passage entrance at the right end, which has a keyed stone lintel above it.
