Description

Manor House is a large corner house located on West Street, dating from the 17th century and modified over time. The exterior is rendered and colourwashed, featuring Ham and artificial stone dressings, with a roof covered in concrete plain tiles and coped gables. The building has a double roof plan and consists of two storeys, a basement, and attics, arranged in three bays.

Architectural details include a plinth, string courses, rusticated quoins, and coped gables for each bay. The ground floor has four-light 20th-century mullioned windows, while the first floor features three-light windows and a blind two-light window on the second floor, which is original but eroded. There is a small Venetian window in the centre bay on the first floor, and in the basement of bay one, there is a four-light mullioned window. Bay two has a 20th-century door with a fanlight set in an architrave under an open pediment supported by console brackets, with concrete steps leading up and an earlier wrought-iron handrail.

The north elevation mirrors the two bays of the main facade, with 20th-century plain mullioned windows on the ground and first floors. The attic windows appear to be stop-chamfer moulded and have hoodmoulds, with the attic window in bay one being three-light and featuring moulded square squint-holes on the sides.

Inside, the northwest corner room on the ground floor is adorned with Jacobean oak panelling, Corinthian pilasters, and an enriched frieze, while other ground floor rooms contain 18th-century pine panelling and doors. Although the house has undergone significant external restoration and subdivision, it was never an actual manor house and no longer justifies its former higher grading.
