Description
The Shorland monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 8 metres south-west of the west door of the Church of St. Mary Major. Dating from the 18th century, it is made of Ham stone and features a moulded plinth. Each face of the tomb has one fielded panel, flanked by single fielded-panel pilasters. The tomb has a moulded coving leading to a shallow hipped top with rounded leading edges. It commemorates Edith, who died in 1764, and Amelia, who died in 1767, both wives of John Shorland.
