Description
This is a range of farm buildings located about 30 meters west of Rex Hill Farmhouse, with its gable end facing the road. The buildings include a coach house with a loft above and a shelter shed, and they were dated to 1733, marked by the initials E/J M(artin) on the south gable end. The structure has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century.
The buildings are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring coped verges and kneelers, with a roof covered in plain clay tiles, pantiles, double Roman tiles, and triple Roman tiles. The shelter shed has a catslide roof. The layout consists of a long range of the coach house lying north-south, with the shelter shed on the east side that has enclosed bays.
The south gable end showcases early 18th-century red brickwork with three circular openings and a string course. The east front has a double row of nesting holes running the length of the building, although these are partly obscured by the shelter shed. There are inserted openings from the 19th century, and central double door openings on both the east and west sides are still present. Remains of coeval stables to the east are not included in the listing due to alterations.
The building is listed for its historic interest as an example of early brickwork in the county and for its group value with Hyde Cottages and Canal Bridge to the northeast.
