Description
This is a range of three attached farm buildings located about 10 metres east of Wellhouse Farmhouse. The stable dates from the 17th century, the barn from the 18th century, and the shelter shed from the 19th century, with later alterations. The stable and barn are constructed from mixed rubble; the stable has one pitch of roof that is pantiled, while the outer pitch is covered in corrugated iron. The barn features a slate roof, and the shelter shed is built from limestone rubble with brick dressings and has a double Roman tiled roof.
The buildings are arranged in a U-plan, with the stable to the north, the barn to the east, and the shelter shed to the south. The inner side of the barn has three doors with timber lintels, including a loading door under the eaves to the right and a small opening with a heavy frame and lintel to the left. The gable end of the barn includes a loading door with strap hinges. There are external steps leading to a large door with a segmental head on the barn, along with a ventilation slit to the left and an owlhole in the gable end to the south, which also has a 20th-century brick addition.
The shelter shed features four openings on its inner side with brick sides that rise to eaves level, and the south elevation has four openings with brick piers. The north elevation of the stable has no openings, and its roof is covered in corrugated iron due to bomb damage during the Second World War. The east elevation of the barn has a central door with a stone relieving arch and a loading door under the eaves to the right. The interior is not accessible.
