Description

Wellhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse, dated 1631 on the porch, with later alterations and additions. It is built of random mixed rubble with limestone quoins, and has a pantiled roof with stone gable stacks. The building is in an L-shape, created by a rear wing, and has a symmetrical front. The main part of the farmhouse is two storeys high with two windows; these are 3-light replacement casement windows. A central gabled porch has a datestone and includes a 20th-century half-glazed outer door. The inner door is heavy and studded, with Y-forked strap hinges and a moulded frame, and a raised cill. The left return shows a stack, which may be false, along with a 2-light casement at ground floor and a smaller casement at first floor set off-centre, and a small blocked attic light. There is a lean-to attached to the front right, possibly from the 18th century. The right return has a 1½-storey wing extending from the main range, featuring a door in the lean-to and a 2-light casement at the gable end. A 2-storey rear wing to the right has a catslide roof and a door. A central section of the rear wing has been infilled with corrugated iron. A former inner courtyard is now glazed. A brick stack rises through the catslide roof. A 19th-century lean-to is attached to the rear right, with brick quoins and dressings and a 4-pane window. The rear of the farmhouse has a single-storey glazed lean-to porch set into the angle of the rear wing, alongside a 3-light casement at first floor. The inner side of the wing features a 2-light and a 3-light casement at ground floor, and a 20th-century metal casement under the eaves. The gable end of the wing has a 2-light casement at first floor, and a 19th-century lean-to with a loading door to the left. The interior is not accessible.
