Description

The Street War Memorial is a First World War memorial designed by William Douglas Caröe FSA and was erected in 1921. It is made of Ham Hill stone and is located within Merriman Gardens Park in Street. The memorial features a hooded Calvary that rises from a square plinth on a tapering octagonal shaft. This plinth is set on a three-stepped octagonal base, which has a raised octagonal kerb. The memorial is positioned at the center of an area paved in natural stone.

On the front face of the plinth, there is an inscription in raised Gothic style lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE 1914-18." Additionally, the names of 67 individuals are incised into the rises of the stepped base.
