Description

The Saintbury War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, designed by Alec Miller, and altered after the Second World War. It is made from local limestone.

The memorial features a hooded Calvary positioned atop a sturdy octagonal column, which stands on a square plinth and a wider square base, each with shaped corners. This is set on a single-stepped octagonal platform. The plinth is inscribed in a Serif font with the following text: "IN PERPETUAL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AT THE CALL OF DUTY IN THE WAR FOR GOD KING AND COUNTRY 1914 - 1918 (NAMES) LOOK FOR THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD AND THE LIFE OF THE WORLD TO COME ALSO 1939 - 1945 (NAME)."
