Description

Covert Cottage is a house, likely with a core dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, but substantially renovated and altered in the 19th century. It was formerly three cottages. A 20th-century garage extension on the left side is not considered to be of special architectural interest. The house is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed limestone with a limestone slate roof, featuring flat coping to the gable ends and roll saddles. It has a group of four diagonal stacks at the centre and a gable-end stack on the back extension. The main body of the house extends to the rear, with a 19th-century outshut at the rear left. The front facade is from the 19th century and has a single storey with an attic lit by two Cotswold dormers set into the eaves. The front has two- and three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullioned casement windows with stopped hoods. The rear extension features two- and three-light flat-chamfered stone mullioned casements with round heads. A plank door is set within a four-centred arched surround through the outshut at the rear. The front facade has two doorways, one on the far right and one on the far left, each with flat-chamfered surrounds and projecting gabled hoods, and modern part-glazed doors.
