Description
The Hinton St George War Memorial is a war memorial erected around 1920, located in the churchyard near the east end of the church. It is made from Ham stone and takes the form of a Calvary with a shaped weatherhood above it. The memorial features an octagonal shaft adorned with interlaced decoration at the socket and slender quarter balusters at the lower part. This shaft is set on a square plinth, which in turn stands on a square base. The east face of the plinth bears the inscription: "TO THE MEMORY/ OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ 1914-1918/ 1939-1945/ 'THEY ARE THINE O LORD THOU LOVER OF SOULS'." The other three sides of the plinth list the names of the fallen from both conflicts.
