Description
The Allen and Wills monuments are two chest tombs located about one metre south-east of the chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St George. They date from the late 18th century and are made of Ham stone.
The more easterly tomb features a moulded plinth, with one fielded panel on each face and single-panel pilasters on the flanks. It has no frieze and a moulded coving on the hipped top with rounded leading edges. This tomb commemorates Simon Allen, who died in 1793.
The second chest tomb, situated one metre from the chancel, also dates from the late 18th century and is made of Ham stone. It has a moulded plinth, one fielded panel on each face, and three-panel pilasters on the flanks, with no frieze. It similarly features a moulded coving on the hipped top with rounded leading edges and commemorates Thomas Wills, who died in 1773.
