Description
Gainsfords is a detached house built in the early 19th century, constructed from cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings and a hipped Welsh slate roof, featuring a brick chimney stack. Designed in a villa style, it stands two storeys high with three bays. The building has a plinth and rusticated quoins. On the ground floor, the outer bays have 12-pane sash windows in beaded surrounds, while the centre bay features a 6-panel door with top-lights set in a recess. Across the facade is a timber, iron, and glass verandah, likely added in the early 20th century. The first floor has 20-pane sash windows in beaded surrounds, with the centre window being narrower. At the rear, there is a gabled extension with a parallel roof. Although the interior has not been seen, approximately 5 metres west of the house are the front boundary railings, which consist of cast-iron hoops of elaborate design set in an ashlar wall about 900mm high. There is a pair of late 20th-century timber gates at the north end. The railings contribute to the overall setting of the house and enhance the village streetscape.
