Description

Brown's Farmhouse is a detached house dated 1713, although it has been significantly rebuilt. The facade is made of ham stone ashlar, which is roughly cut and squared on the sides and rear. The roof features double Roman clay tiles between high coped gables, indicating it may have originally had thatch, and it has precast concrete gutters along with brick end chimney stacks.

The building has two storeys with an attic and consists of four bays. The third bay includes an open porch with a room above it. There is a plinth and a string course between the floors. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned types set in wave-mould recesses with labels, with three lights above and four lights below. The lower part of bay three features a moulded cambered-arched doorway with a boarded door, which is sheltered by the open porch that has Doric outer columns but no inner pilaster. Above the porch, there is a 1+3+1 light square bay window with a label and a gable that contains the datestone inscribed 'S/IP/1713'.

The east gable has two later casement windows, while the west gable features a blind three-light window on the first floor and a pair of two-light windows in the attic under a shared label. There is a 19th-century extension at the rear. Although the interior was not seen, it is reported to have a three-room plan with a passage leading to a staircase, likely in its original position, while the earlier roof frame has been completely replaced.
