Hurds Hill House And Courtyard Walling

Hurds Hill House is a country house built in the late 18th century. It features a rendered exterior designed to resemble ashlar stone, with hipped slate roofs and wooden eaves cornices. The house has tall ashlar stacks topped with ornamental capping and is influenced by the style of Sir John Soane.

The front of the house has three bays and is two storeys high. The outer bays, made of Ham stone ashlar, project on the ground floor and contain sash windows with glazing bars arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern. Above the windows, there is an entablature with a cornice that continues between the bays, forming a portico supported by two square columns. The first floor maintains this style with a continuous portico featuring ten square columns and triangular pediments on the outer bays.

The central doorway is recessed and includes French windows, a fanlight, and sidelights. The returns of the house also conform to this architectural style. Inside, the house has contemporary fittings, including notable chimneypieces. The courtyard is enclosed by stone balustrading topped with obelisk finials.
