Description
This is a water pump located immediately east of the Veterinary Surgery in Langport, dated 1878. It is made of cast iron and is set on a concrete plinth with grating. The pump features a fluted column on a moulded base, adorned with collar rings. Its cylindrical headpiece has an ornamental curved spout, a decorative pointed finial, and an 'S'-shaped handle with a pear-shaped end knob. A large metal plaque on the pump reads "Artesian tube well/sunk by/Le Grand and Sutcliffe/Burnhill Row London/1878." This pump is one of several that were once found in this street and is considered the best surviving example.
