Description
This is a detached house located at the entrance to a former wharf, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped plain clay tile roof with brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays, with sash windows consisting of 12 panes in plain openings that have rubbed brick gauged flat heads. The central bay contains a five-panelled door set in a semi-circular arched recess, topped by a radial-glazed fanlight. There is a 20th-century garage added as a lean-to on the north gable. The interior has not been seen. Extending from the east side of the house is a stepped wing wall with a gate that connects to a brick warehouse building, which has a clay pantiled gabled roof and consists of six bays. This house was likely built as the wharf-master's residence by the Stuckey and Bagehot family, who were involved in banking and economics and operated from this wharf throughout the 19th century.
