Description
Pound Cottage is a detached cottage dating back to the 15th century with later additions. It is constructed from local lias stone, cut and squared, with a thatched roof. The east gable has a stepped cope, and the west end is hipped. Brick chimney stacks are also present. The cottage has an āLā shape and two storeys. The front elevation has four bays, with the first bay projecting. There are timber casement windows, of various types. Bays 3 and 4 have no windows on the upper floor. Bay 3 features a wide boarded door set in a heavy frame, while bay 4 represents an extension that has been converted into a garage. The rear south wall has two three-light timber-framed windows with diagonal set mullions. Inside, the east wing contains two cruck roof trusses, blackened by smoke, and lacking wind braces, likely representing the remains of a medieval house. The main wing also features a cruck derivative roof truss and traces of a smoke hood. Some wattle and daub partitioning remains within the roof space.
