Description
Mellowstones is a cottage located on Back Lane in Stoney Stratton, dating from the 17th century. The building features two stones on the first floor with dentil surrounds and raised lettering, displaying the initials "D.T.I.H." on the left and the year "1637" on the right. It is constructed of rubble with a double-Roman tiled roof, coped verges, and brick stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and has bays with 2 and 3-light moulded stone-mullioned windows, each with stopped labels and casements. There are also two single-light openings, one in a rough stone surround and the other with a freestone surround featuring a cornice drip. The central door opening contains a 20th-century plank door. At the rear, there is a stair-turret with a winder staircase. Inside, there are two fireplaces with wooden bressumers and a ground floor door with two fielded panels.
