Description

Albion Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, located on the east side of High Street, Norton St. Philip. The cottage is constructed of roughly coursed rubble Doulting stone with some ashlar quoins, and has a stone slate roof with coped gables, a finial off the verge, and ashlar chimney stacks to the projecting chimney breast and the return gable. It is three storeys high and has an "L" shaped plan, with windows irregularly placed. The front entrance is framed by a 4-centred ogee moulded stone surround, leading to an 8-panel door. To the left of the door is a 12-pane sash window. On the first floor is a 4-light ogee moulded stone mullion window with 19th-century 3-pane casements and a stopped dripmould. The second floor has two 2-light ogee moulded stone mullion windows, also with 19th-century 3-pane casements and a stopped dripmould. A blind oval window is situated in the verge gable. The south-east elevation features a semi-circular headed recess containing a 3-light stone mullioned window with 8-pane sashes and a stopped dripmould, on the first floor.
