Description

The White House is a house dated 1658, but likely has origins that are even earlier. It is constructed of random rubble stone, which is now painted. The roof is gabled and covered with clay pantiles, featuring a central brick chimney stack and three coped gables on the front wall, with double Roman clay tile roofs, one of which has pantiles and finials. The house is one and a half storeys high and has a three-window front in an 'L' plan, which probably indicates it was once a medieval open hall house.

The entrance is located between the first and second windows and features a six-panel door set behind a moulded stone frame. This frame has a four-centred moulded arch within a square head, adorned with spandrel shields, one of which bears the initials "TIA" and the other displays the date. To the left of the door is a four-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window with a stopped dripmould. To the right, there are two- and three-light wood mullion windows under a common wood lintel.

On the first floor, there are three three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows, each with stopped dripmoulds. All windows are fitted with casements and rectangular leaded lights. The house is said to contain 17th-century fireplaces, spiral stairs, beams, cruck frames, and roof timbers from the earlier structure.
