Description
Hillview is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is rendered over rubble and features a thatched roof with a stone stack at the left gable end. Originally, it had a two-cell plan, with only one room heated and a stair turret located in the southwest corner. The entrance was likely at the center of either the north or south elevations. The cottage is two storeys high and has a layout of one bay on the left and two bays on the right. The gabled stair turret is on the left, and all windows are 20th-century two- and three-light casements. The entrance is on the right end bay, accessed through a pantiled lean-to porch, which has a moulded surround leading to a square-headed plank door.
Inside, there is a chamfered lintel above the fireplace, with a bread oven set into the left wall. The winder stair is located in the turret to the left. The interior also features chamfered beams with scroll stops and cut beams that indicate a partition that once separated the current entrance. The roof structure includes collar and principal rafters. It is unusual for a cottage of this size to have an attached stair turret.
