Description
The railway bridge, built in 1857, is a mineral railway bridge that crosses a road. It is constructed from red sandstone, which is squared and coursed. The bridge features a round arched opening with a rusticated surround and is likely one of the smallest railway bridges still in existence, with a clearance of about 2.5 meters. At the time of the survey in November 1983, the parapet was obscured by ivy. This bridge is part of the second stretch of the West Somerset Mineral Railway, which connected Comberow at the base of the mineral railway incline with the coast, and was opened in 1857. The double track railway also served passengers but only operated when the mines were active. Mining activities ceased in 1883, and after a brief revival from 1907 to 1910, the stock was sold off in 1924.
