Description

Leighland Farmhouse is a late 17th to early 18th century farmhouse, and may have been extended from an earlier building, possibly with a late 18th century roof replacement. It is constructed from colourwashed random rubble with an asbestos slate roof, and has tall brick stacks at the gable ends and between the second and third bays on the left side. The house may have originally had a three-cell plan with a cross passage, later modified, and incorporates a lower, set-back wing to the right. The front of the house has two storeys and six bays, with early 18th century style leaded windows with internal shutters. A first-floor window to the right is a leaded iron casement, and a 20th-century window is located beneath it. The front door is in the second bay from the right, sheltered by a gabled, slate-roofed porch with partially glazed panels. A four-light window with ovolo moulded mullions is found in the rear wing. The interior, only partially inspected, lacks datable features, except in the rear wing where one room contains chamfered beams with step and runout stops.
