Description
Japonica Cottage and Honeysuckle Cottage are a pair of semi-detached cottages dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. They are constructed from red sandstone random rubble and feature a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The cottages have a single cell layout and a symmetrical facade, with entrances that were originally through porches on the north front, which are now blocked. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of four bays. All windows are 20th-century casements, with two full-height gabled, thatched porches in the outer bays and two central windows on the first floor, along with one ground floor window on the left. The openings to the porches are segmental headed and now blocked. The entrance to Japonica Cottage is through a single-storey 20th-century addition on the left, while Honeysuckle Cottage has a 20th-century gabled, thatched porch on its rear elevation. The cottages are primarily listed for their group value with Hillview, located about 3 metres to the east.
