23, 25 AND 27, EAST STREET

This is a former single farmhouse with barn, now divided into three houses, dating primarily to the 18th century with possible origins in the 17th century or earlier. The exterior is constructed of ham stone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof, coped gables, and brick chimney stacks. The building is two stories high and has an irregular fenestration pattern across five bays, a throughway section, and then three bays.

Number 23, known as The Barn, is a 20th-century conversion featuring small-pane casement windows within reconstructed stone surrounds. A single-story extension projects northwards from the northwest corner, topped with a hipped slate roof, but maintains the original overall form of the farmhouse and barn.

Number 25, East Street Farmhouse, consists of three bays, with the left-hand bay originally belonging to an adjoining house. The outer bays have four-light casement windows with horizontal bars. The central bay is above a part-glazed door set within a plain raised surround. The throughway section of Number 25 has a two-light casement in its return wall.

Number 27 is composed of two bays. The upper bay of the left-hand side has a four-light casement window with horizontal bars, and the right-hand side has a single light above a part-glazed door set in a plain opening. The throughway section of Number 27 features a two-light window set into its side wall.

The interior was not inspected but is reportedly a 17th-century through-passage, originally comprising three rooms, with subsequent 18th-century modifications. The building retains group value as a historically significant agricultural structure.
