Description

This property, known as Willows, comprises two dwellings, numbers 177 and 179, along with an attached barn. A single-storey addition connects the main house with the barn. Number 179 dates to the 18th century, while the barn is timber-framed and likely of 17th century or earlier origin. Number 177 is a later addition.

Number 177 is a two-storey and attic building with a gabled slate roof and overhanging eaves. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and has two square sash windows in the attic with tiled gabled details above. The first floor has three sash windows with six panes wide, and the ground floor has two sash windows. A central porch with a tiled gabled roof supported by posts leads to a panelled door with cut-away and glazed top panels within an architrave frame.

Number 179, dating to the 18th century, has an old tile gabled roof with flanking chimneys. It is two storeys and attic in height, with two hipped dormers. It has casement windows with modern glazing bars set within red brick surrounds that likely were once painted, and a dentil eaves cornice. The first and ground floors each have two windows. A central doorway is topped by a flat hood supported by brackets, and features a door with six fielded panels.

The property forms a group with numbers 1 to 7 (odd) Mainstone and numbers 177 and 179.
