ST0827 WIVELISCOMBE CP WEST STREET (South side)

8/95 No 5 (Thornes the Butchers) -

GV II House, with shop. Early C19, shopfront circa 1900. Render grooved as ashlar, quoin strips and moulded cornice with low pitched Welsh slate roof, hipped on the left side with brick stack. 3-storeys and 2-bays, modern aluminium sashes in raised surrounds with stressed voussoirs. Butcher's shop circa 1900 with cows' head on top of flanking pilasters, coloured tiles and decorative cast iron ventilation grills to basement. Plate glass window and door. Panelled pier to match that of The Croft (q.v.). This was probably built as the domestic wing of The Croft. Primarily included for group value with The Croft.
