Description

The walls enclosing the gardens, located about 20 metres west of Fairfield House, date back to 1778 and may have been enlarged in the early 19th century. They are constructed from blue lias random rubble and feature pantile coping, standing approximately 2.5 metres high and forming a rectangular enclosure with pointed arch openings. In the northeast corner, there is a stone inscribed with "IW 1778 WS," likely added by the masons. Additionally, there is a wall enclosing a narrower rectangle to the north, which has a blue lias random rubble exterior lined with garden wall bond brick and pantile coping. The exterior north wall is of a later date than the southern wall, but it may represent a 19th-century renewal of an existing structure.
