Description
The former garden walls to the rear of West Ella Road date from around 1770. They are constructed of red brick with stone dressings. Originally, these walls formed an approximately square enclosure with a central dividing wall, but the street-facing section has been removed to make way for 20th-century housing. The remaining high wall features stone coping and is regularly interrupted by piers topped with ball finials. At the southern end of the garden of No 197, there is a pair of brick gate piers, also from around 1770 or earlier, which stand about 15 feet high and support a fine wrought iron gate that is contemporary to the piers.
