Outbuilding About 25 Metres North West Of Sock Dennis Farmhouse

The outbuilding located about 25 metres north-west of Sock Dennis Farmhouse is believed to have been a former chapel and is used as a store. It dates from the 16th and 18th centuries and is constructed from cut and squared lias stone with a Welsh slate roof that replaced the original thatch. The building has an 'L' plan layout. The north gable features three 2-light windows, two on the lower level and one above, designed to match the 18th-century mullioned windows of Sock Dennis Farmhouse. To the west, there is a moulded cambered arched doorway that appears to be from the early 16th century. The east and west sides are plain, while the south gable has two 4-centre-arched doorways that are not aligned, both with plain chamfers. Inside, there is a later form of queen-post roof truss, and the walls are lined with brick. Attached to the north-west corner of the building is a low byre and stable with four bays, featuring brick columns topped with Ham stone caps and a hipped Welsh slate roof over stone slate base courses, with sawn stone hips and ridge. The presence of this building indicates that the site may contain remnants from the medieval settlement.
