The Outer Drive Entrance Gateway, About 100 Metres North Of North Cadbury Court

The outer drive entrance gateway, located about 100 metres north of North Cadbury Court, dates from around 1700 and is constructed from Doulting stone. It features square gate piers set on a chamfered plinth, which is mostly buried. The piers are adorned with Ionic pilasters that conceal the gate rebates. The tops of the piers have a dogtooth frieze, a small cornice mould, and a scaled, bell-hip top, which is surmounted by a pecked neck and ball finial decorated with acanthus on the lower halves. The gateway includes a pair of wrought-iron gates, likely from the late 19th century, featuring square rails with twist points, urn finials at the ends and centers, and curved braces with top rails. This gateway is part of an important group with North Cadbury Court and the Church of St. Michael.
