Description
Pyleigh Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century, early 19th century, and mid-20th century. The facade and left side are roughcast, while the right side features red sandstone random rubble. The cottage has a thatched roof that is half hipped on both ends, with brick stacks set in from the ridge ends. The plan is unclear without an internal inspection, but it consists of a long block that faces the road. There is a 20th-century addition at the south end and an independently roofed addition at the northeast corner that appears to be a stair turret.
The cottage is one and a half storeys tall with irregular fenestration. It has three three-light dormers that extend through the eaves, featuring glazed pedimented tops and leaded lights. To the left, there is an oriel window with leaded lights. The exterior is surrounded by applied timber framing, and there is a wooden trellis porch below a plank door, which is approached by a short flight of steps. On the right side at ground level, there are three three-light leaded windows with chamfered mullions, along with two 20th-century windows in the outer bays. The left side has a two-light ovolo moulded mullion window at ground level, with two irregularly placed 20th-century windows above. The interior has not been viewed.
