Description
The Old Vicarage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with possible earlier origins. It was refenestrated in the late 18th to early 19th century and underwent alterations in the mid-20th century. The exterior features roughcast over red sandstone random rubble on the exposed left gable end, a thatched roof, and brick stacks at the gable ends and to the right of the cross passage. There is a full-height brick buttress at the end bay on the right and raking buttresses on the right return gable end, which flank the entrance and the end bay on the left. The building has a plan consisting of three cells and a cross passage facing south, with a north-west wing. It is one and a half storeys tall and has five bays; an eyebrow dormer is located on the right, and the eaves are raised above the four central bays. The first floor features two and three-light leaded iron casements, while there is a two-light wooden casement in the third bay on the left. On the ground floor, there is a three-light wooden casement to the left of the entrance, a 20th-century window on the right, and a three-light leaded casement at the end bay on the right. The entrance includes a half-glazed 20th-century door, and there is a small stair light on the left gable end, along with a blocked doorway. The interior has not been seen.
