Description
Court Gardens Farmhouse and the walls enclosing the garden date from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and late 20th century. The farmhouse is rendered over rubble with a thatched roof and brick stacks. It is likely a three-cell structure with a cross passage, which was extended to the west in the late 20th century. The walls are built of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring Ham stone flat coping that abuts the west gable end and the southeast corner of the cottage, returning to enclose the garden.
The south front of the cottage overlooks the garden and is one and a half storeys high, featuring four eyebrow dormers. There is one window set below the eaves on the left, with late 18th century two-light leaded iron casements. The ground floor windows and door are from the late 20th century, and there is an outshut at the rear with 20th century additions. The interior has not been seen. There is an inserted doorway in the wall by the west end of the cottage, with segmental headed original openings on the northwest and center of the south side. The wall is interrupted in the southeast corner, and restoration was in progress as of April 1985. This garden was originally the vegetable garden for Nynehead Court, which was built incorporating the existing farmhouse.
