Description
Pyleigh Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century, with enlargements made in the 17th century and alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with some areas of cob, and features brick relieving arches over the openings. The roof is slate, and there are brick stacks at the gable ends and to the left of the cross passage. The building has an "L"-shaped plan, with the original two-cell block running east-west, connected to a two-cell and cross passage block facing south. It is two stories high and has three bays, with two casements on the first floor to the left, and a 20th-century stud and plank door between the first and second bays. The cross wing has an unlit gable end due to the Victorian addition of a fireplace and oven. The rear elevation includes a projecting stair turret. Inside, there are chamfered beams with stops to the right of the cross passage, and a winder stair to the right of the fireplace, which is lit by a two-light chamfered mullioned window.
