Description

First World War memorial, erected 1920.

DESCRIPTION: it is carved from granite and takes the form of a rough-hewn Latin cross set upon a three-stepped base. Carved into the front (W) face of the upper step is the inscription TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND / IN HONOURED MEMORY OF / THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR. The middle step is inscribed 1914-1919. / (NAMES). There is a further inscription to the lower step which is weathered and reads (Imperial War Museum, see Sources) RIP / WE COMMIT THE KEEPING OF THEIR SOULS / TO HIM AS UNTO A FAITHFUL CREATOR / THIS CROSS WAS ERECTED BY THE RECTOR AND / PARISHIONERS OF KITTISFORD 1920.
