Description

The Globe Inn is a public house that originated as cottages in the 17th century, with a 19th-century extension at the rear and 20th-century additions. The building is constructed of rendered cob and features slate roofs, with brick ridge and end stacks.

The layout includes a central front entrance leading to a corridor, with two public rooms on the left and one on the right, and a servery behind the latter. The exterior is two storeys high with a three-bay window front, showcasing three-light casements with glazing bars. A gabled front porch includes half-height panelling and seats, and there is a late 19th-century door. To the left, there is a single-storey store attached. The left side of the building has a five-bay return with two- and four-light casements, also with glazing bars. A large cartouche displaying the name of the public house is positioned between the ground and first floor of the end bay on the right. The rear elevation features two-light casements.

Inside, the corridor has a red brick floor. The front room on the left contains fixed seating and a match board panelled dado, with a small, curved settle acting as a baffle beside the entrance. There are two chamfered spine beams and a mid-20th-century fireplace. An opening has been cut through to the rear public room, which has match board panelling up to full height on most walls and a panelled ceiling, along with another chamfered spine beam. The front room is plain, with a late 20th-century hatch leading to the serving area. A 19th-century bar counter is located in the corridor, featuring diagonally boarded panels and glazed sections above with eight square panes.

The Globe Inn is a rural public house that retains its three-room plan and many of its 19th-century fittings.
