Description
The Old School House is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features a rendered exterior over rubble masonry, with some areas lined to resemble ashlar. The building has a distinctive L-plan shape and an open hall design. It is two storeys high, with the main part showcasing a pointed arch entrance located to the left of the center. To the left of the entrance is a double transomed stair window (oriel), and to the right are two ranges of 19th-century three-light casements. There is a projecting wing to the south, which has two levels and is independently roofed, containing one two-light casement.
Inside, the house has two pairs of jointed cruck trusses, one of which has been altered. The open hall has been modified to include a staircase, and the ground floor room features chamfered beams with a treble ridge and diamond stops. There is also evidence of winder stairs to the right of the open fireplace. The house is partially concealed from the road by a mid-19th-century school room, which is not included in the listing.
