Description
Beardley Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century with an early 18th-century addition, is a farmhouse featuring a rendered exterior with quoin strips, a dentil cornice, and a slate roof with rendered stacks. The building has a one-plan layout, with the early 18th-century block facing the earlier wing. It stands two storeys over a basement and consists of three bays with sash windows that have glazing bars. The entrance is highlighted by a fluted pilaster doorcase, a frieze decorated with metopes and triglyphs, and a pediment adorned with dentils. The door itself is unusual, featuring two fielded panels in the centre and three-light glazed openings above, along with a St. Andrews cross panel below. There are steps leading up to the door, flanked by swept-back cast iron railings with a handrail. The left side of the building is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and has two storeys with five bays of cross casements that include leaded panes. The fourth bay on the right is blocked on both storeys, and there is a 20th-century metal casement window above a gabled porch that has a 20th-century glazed door in the outer bay on the right. This addition is reputed to have been made in the early 18th century when the farm became a dower house for Bathealton Court.
