Description
The Church of St Bartholomew, built in 1854, is a church constructed from coursed, squared red sandstone rubble with white limestone dressings. It features a moulded plinth, quoins, and a patterned tile roof, showcasing an Early Middle Pointed style. The church has a nave with a three-bay north aisle and a south porch that includes a moulded ashlar plinth and a pointed wooden arched arcade. This arcade supports a crown post gabled roof with a bell cast patterned tiled roof. At the west end, there is a three-stage crenellated tower with a staircase turret, and a vestry located in the northeast corner, which has a capped stone chimney projecting at an angle. The windows are predominantly two-light, with a three-light window at the east end and in the north aisle. Inside, the church has a rendered interior featuring a four-centred arch arcade supported by octagonal moulded piers, along with simple mid-19th century fittings, including a crocketed bishop's chair from the same period.
