Description

Kittisford House, formerly known as Kittisford Rectory, is a house dating from the 17th century, with early 19th-century additions. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, featuring quoins that distinguish the main block from the service wing. The house has a slate roof that is hipped to the left and gabled to the right, with brick stacks. The building is arranged in a U-plan facing south, with a service wing extending to the southeast. Originally, it was an L-shaped block on the east side, which was refronted on the south side in the early 19th century when it was linked to a new L-shaped block on the west side by a staircase hall to the north.

The south front has two and a half storeys and consists of four bays on the left and three bays on the right. It features sash windows with glazing bars and three flat-headed dormers in the main block. The center of the main block has a three-light bay window with a cast iron canopy and a slate roof. The left return elevation has three bays with similar window designs. Inside, the east wing contains moulded and chamfered beams with enriched stops, and there is an imported early 18th-century barley sugar twist dog-leg staircase in the back stairs.
