Description
The Old Rectory is a house, formerly known as The Rectory, dated 1607. It is constructed from coursed rubblestone and features an old tile roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and is designed in an H-plan layout.
The south front has a central section that is three windows wide, flanked by projecting gabled wings. The right gable contains two-light stone mullioned casements, which are 20th-century replacements, featuring voussoir heads and keyblocks beneath drip moulds. The attic window is a timber casement. The left gable has a two-light window on the first floor and a four-light window on the ground floor, both with similar stone framing. The center of the south front showcases a 17th-century style colonnade with a pierced balustrade leading to a first-floor balcony. The central door is flanked by two-light stone mullioned windows, and there are three windows on the first floor with moulded and bracketed features. The roof has a painted cornice and two-light dormers on either side of a gabled belcote.
The north front also features projecting gabled wings. The center has a 1607 two-light ovolo mullioned leaded window on the first floor, while the other windows are sashes. The left gabled wing has a four-pane window on the ground floor and a five-pane window on the first floor. Coped gables and kneelers are present throughout the building. A datestone on the southwest angle quoin is inscribed 'Tertio Aprilis I.M. 1607'.
Inside, there are some 17th-century fireplaces with stone jambs and oak lintels, along with an 18th-century staircase that has turned balusters and a moulded handrail. Some reused 17th-century panelling can also be found within the interior.
