Description
The Laurels is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, constructed of coursed rubblestone with old tile roofs. It has two storeys and gabled attics, with the north and south ranges linked by one bay, creating east and west wings. The omission of the centre bay in the north range results in an open courtyard. The east front features double gables with a central doorway behind a 19th-century gabled porch. There are two-storey flat-roofed bay windows in the outer bays, with leaded casements; there are two 2-light windows above the door, and 3-light and 2-light windows in the attics, along with a single light in the right gable bay. The bay windows have dentil eaves. The south front, facing the road, has three bays of 19th-century sash windows and a canted bay window in the right-hand ground floor bay. The west front also has two gables, with stone-coped gables on kneelers. Chimney stacks are positioned between the bays, including one on the south front with a stone base and two diagonal brick shafts. Inside, there is a late 16th-century or early 17th-century staircase featuring flat carved balusters and a plain handrail.
