Description
Martins was originally Thakeham Rectory and is a fairly large house that has been built and modified over several periods. The original part of the house is timber-framed, with significant enlargements made in the late 17th century and the 18th century. The exterior features a mix of red brick, red mathematical tiles, weather tiles, stone, and stucco in various areas, topped with a Horsham slab roof. The south front has two gables and two shaped gables between them, with modern casement windows. The house is two storeys high and has four windows on the front. A panel by the door displays the date 1664. At the west end, there is a long wing that was originally stables but has been converted into part of the house; this wing likely dates from the 18th century and is constructed of coursed sandstone with a tiled roof, featuring two storeys and six windows.
