Description

Old Burford Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with restoration work from the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and features a triple Roman tile roof with a crested ridge. The building has one tall concrete block chimney on a projecting gabled rubble base, one octagonal ashlar chimney with a crenellated cap, and one square ashlar chimney with a moulded cap, along with coped verges. The farmhouse is arranged in an L-plan, likely the remnants of a larger structure. It has a single storey and attic, as well as two storeys, with a total of two bays on the right and one bay on the left. The left bay is under a front-facing gable with a pierced finial, and there is a two-storey flat-roofed canted bay with lead cresting. Each floor features an ovolo moulded stone mullioned window with five lights, and there is a similarly moulded single light window on the gable face. To the right, there is a single ovolo moulded stone mullioned window on the ground floor. The door opening is nearly central and has a chamfered dressed stone surround with a plank door, and a narrow single light window is set above it. There is a three-bay, single-storey addition set back to the right, which has 20th-century casements and a central bay under a coped gable with an obelisk finial, along with a 20th-century door. Inside, there are some original features, including a cross-beam ceiling on the ground floor and a fireplace in a dressed stone surround on the first floor.
