Description

Wesleyan Methodist chapel, built in the early 19th century with alterations in the mid-to-late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with dressed flush quoins, and has a slate roof with coped verges. The verges over the entrance are finished with finials at the base and a stone lantern with a spirelet at the apex. A brick stack is also present.

The chapel is rectangular in plan, with irregular lean-to extensions to the rear. Its style is Gothick, incorporating some Early English features. The front elevation has a large four-light pointed arch window with simple intersecting tracery and a stopped label. Smaller two-light windows with Y-tracery and leaded lights are on either side. A central projecting ashlar entrance porch features paired shafted pointed arch door openings with plank doors and elaborate strap hinges. Gabled labels extend up to a parapet pierced by quatrefoils and topped by a crocketted finial at each corner, with poppy finials over the doorways. Return elevations include tall two-light pointed arch windows with leaded lights. The rear outshuts have pointed arch door openings on each side of the chapel.
