Description

Park Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 15th century to early 16th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of rendered limestone rubble and features a gabled pantile roof with brick axial and end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan with a cross passage next to the stack of the central hall. It has one storey and an attic, with a four-window range. There is a shallow pointed arch over a 19th-century six-panelled door with a Gothic fanlight, and a 20th-century two-light window above another 19th-century six-panelled door with a Gothic fanlight. The windows include 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, a 19th-century eight-over-eight pane sash, and three and four-light casements in gabled dormers. A mid-19th-century rear wing is present, and the rear wall has been raised by a few courses to accommodate a lower-pitched roof.

Inside, the structure features late 15th-century to early 16th-century jointed cruck trusses with smoke blackening and windbracing to the rear purlins. There are chamfered beams throughout, with the central beam being more deeply chamfered. A timber-framed partition separates the hall from the inner parlour. The large open hall fireplace, which includes a bread oven, has a late 18th-century bracketed mantleshelf and a pointed-arched surround. The early to mid-18th-century closed-string staircase has column-on-vase balusters and a ramped handrail. The interior also contains 18th and 19th-century panelled doors, along with a 17th-century doorframe on the first floor.
