Description

Darwood House is a farmhouse dating back to the 15th century, with alterations and an addition from the 17th and 19th centuries. The house is constructed of squared coursed limestone rubble with massive quoins and some painted brick. It has a steeply pitched pantile roof with two external gable stone stacks topped with brick. The main front is an irregular four-bay design, with a first-floor brick band and a stone plinth on the left-hand gable. A central half-glazed door is flanked by two glazing bar sashes, with brick patching evident around the windows. Two plain casements are located on the first floor above. To the right is a two-story, two-bay 19th-century brick service block. Inside, a chamfered girder is visible, featuring pyramidal stops. On the first floor are three large cambered tie beams, two of which are set within the gable walls. The exposed wall plates above the window heads are also substantial. A 17th-century stone fireplace is found within the left-hand gable stack.
