Description
The Hatch Beauchamp War Memorial is a sandstone structure commemorating 12 men from Hatch Beauchamp who died in the First World War, as well as acknowledging that all local men serving in the Second World War returned home safely.
The memorial stands approximately 3 meters high along the roadside in Village Street. It features a wheel cross atop an octagonal shaft, which is set on a square plinth with a three-stepped base. The inscription on the memorial reads:
'THIS CROSS IS ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE / MEN OF HATCH BEAUCHAMP WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND / COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 / [names of 12 men] / THEY DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE: THEIR NAME WILL LIVE FOR EVERMORE / ALL SAFELY HOME 1939-1945'.
The memorial is enclosed within a square-shaped gravelled area, surrounded by cast-iron spear-headed railings, which are included in the listing.
